Achieve Longer Distances on Your Horizontal Jumps!

Former jump coach for the USA Track & Field team, Irving Schexnayder, gives many coaching points that allow the athlete to perform a routine that provides resistance training specific to the horizontal jumps. The Orion Routine also has an added benefit of developing core strength.

The Orion Routine

The premise of the routine is a series of weighted throwing drills using an indoor shot put. The actual object and weight could vary based on the developmental level of the athlete. The difference maker is that the drills are completed by the athlete in a staggered stance similar to the penultimate takeoff position of the horizontal jumps.
