Mark Carlson guided the 2009 U.S. Junior Select Team to its second straight World Junior A Challenge championship with a 2-1 win over Canada West at Credit Union Place in Summerside, P.E.I. Team USA completed the tournament with a 4-0-1-0 record.
Carlson, the head coach and general manager of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (United States Hockey League), led the U.S. Junior Select Team for the second consecutive year. Carlson has led Cedar Rapids to nine straight winning seasons and Clark Cup playoff appearances. In 2004-05, Carlson was named the USHL Coach of the Year after finishing the season with a 42-13-5 overall record, and winning his first Clark Cup championship. Carlson has over 300 victories and was named the United States Olympic Committee Development Coach of the Year in 2008-09.
