Mark Brew and Lee University will host a regional of the 2009 NAIA National Baseball Championship. Lee’s Olympic Field will be the site of the five team, four-day (May 12-15), double-elimination tournament. Only the winner will advance to the NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Lee baseball team (47-12) will face Spring Arbor University (Mich., 30-11) in the opening round on Tuesday at 3:30. Joining Lee and Spring Arbor will be neighboring Tennessee Wesleyan College (43-13), Belhaven University (Jackson, Miss.) and Indiana Tech (Fort Wayne, Ind.).
The Flames slipped to 10th in the final NAIA national ranking after a disappointing showing in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament. The tourney allowed TWC to leap frog over Lee and grab the ninth spot in the ranking and No. 1 seed in the Olympic Field event.
