Olympic Champion John Smith among Nominees for U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame!

Olympic wrestler John Smith was among the 15 nominees for the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame Class of 2009.  Smith is a four-time World Champion and a two-time Olympic Champion.  He won gold medals in the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games in the featherweight division and is also a two-time Pan American gold medalist (1987 & 1991).  He was the first wrestler ever to win the James E. Sullivan Award and was named the U.S. Olympic SportsMan of the Year in 1990. 

Smith is currently the head wrestling coach at Oklahoma State University where he has won five NCAA Championships and been named Big 12 Coach of the Year seven times.  Smith also guided the U.S. Olympic Team in 2000 and the U.S. World Championships Team in 1988.
