Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels won the 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The Tar Heels defeated Michigan State, coached by Tom Izzo, by a score of 89-72. The title was North Carolina’s fifth title while it was Williams’ second. His first national championship came in 2005. Williams has compiled an overall record of 594-138 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Roy Williams first National Championship was won in 2005. He was the coaching North Carolina NOT Kansas.
