Don Meyer, Northern State’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach, passed Bob Knight as college basketball’s winningest men’s coach. Northern State defeated Mary 82-62 Saturday night to give Meyer his 903rd career victory. In 37 years of coaching, Meyer has compiled a career record of 903 – 301.
Northern State men’s basketball coach Don Meyer made history January 3, 2009, when his team defeated Upper Iowa, 63-58. Meyer tied Bobby Knight for the most coaching victories in NCAA men’s basketball history with 902. Meyer and Knight are the only two coaches in NCAA men’s basketball history to reach the 900-win plateau.
Coach Meyer returned to the sidelines this fall after a car accident on September 5, 2008. Coach Meyer is still recovering from the accident and will battle cancer in his liver and small intestine which was found at the time of the accident.
