Jim Morris, J.D. Arteaga, Gino DiMare, Joe Mercadante & the University of Miami baseball team earned the No. 1 national seed in the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. The Hurricanes will play host to No. 2 seed Missouri, No. 3 seed Mississippi and No. 4 seed Bethune-Cookman in the Coral Gables Regional. The seven other national seeds include: North Carolina, Arizona State, Florida State, Cal State Fullerton, Rice, Louisiana State, and Georgia. Regional play begins May 30, 2008.

Dave Paulsen, a two-time National Coach of the Year who led Williams College to the 2003 Division III national championship, has been selected as the head men’s basketball coach at Bucknell. In eight years at Williams, Paulsen guided the Ephs to a 170-53 (.762) record, including a combined 61-3 mark in 2002-03 and 2003-04. His team captured the 2003 national championship and was the national runner-up in 2004. The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Coach of the Year in both 2003 and 2004, Paulsen’s teams won three NESCAC championships (2003, 2004, 2007) and made four NCAA Tournament appearances (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007). He was a three-time NESCAC Coach of the Year and two-time New England Coach of the Year.
Paulsen has coached at every level of college basketball over the last 20 years, has won 68 percent of his games as a head coach, and is considered a highly sought-after consultant on the principles of the motion offense.
Conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing defines the word SPORTSMANSHIP. Athletic directors and coaches often stress the importance of this conduct & attitude, but poor sportsmanship often overshadows the good. The 2008 NCAA Men’s & Women’s Lacrosse Championships are in the semifinal rounds. The women’s tournament held at Johnny Unitas Stadium – Towson University, will feature Northwestern vs. Syracuse (coached by Gary Gait) and Duke vs. Penn. The men’s tournament held at Gillette Stadium will feature Duke (coached by John Danowski) vs. Johns Hopkins and Virginia (coached by Dom Starsia) vs. Syracuse.
