Tom Brands Named 2008 NWCA Coach of the Year

Iowa Head Wrestling Coach Tom Brands was named 2008 NWCA Coach of the Year!  Brands led the Hawkeyes to the 2008 NCAA DI National Championship team title, crowned two national champions, and had seven All-Americans.

Brands, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist and 4X All-American, just completed his second season as head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa.  In his first season at Iowa, he coached one national champion & three All-Americans, going 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten.  This season, Brands led Iowa to the school’s 32nd Big Ten team title, earning Big Ten Coach of the Year accolades.  The Hawkeyes went 21-1 in dual competition and 8-0 in Big Ten duals.  The Hawks also won the 2007 Midlands Championships and the 2008 NWCA / Cliff Keen National Wrestling Duals.

Iowa Hawkeyes Won 2008 DI Wrestling Championship!

The Iowa Hawkeyes won its 21st NCAA wrestling championship since 2000 with 117.5 points, had seven All-Americans, and crowned two individual champions!  Ohio State placed second with 79 points and also crowned two individual champions.  Below is the Team Standings for the 2008 NCAA DI Wrestling Championships (Top 10)
