39th Annual Iowa Track Coaches Clinic to Feature Legendary Running Coach Dr. Jack Daniels, Renowned Sports Psychologist Jerry Lynch, and 3x Olympic Track Team Coach Dan Pfaff
Ames (IA) The 39th annual Iowa Track Coaches Clinic will be held Dec. 7-8 at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center in Ames. Featured clinicians include Dr. Jack Daniels, who coached his NY-Cortland teams to eight Division III NCAA titles as well as trained/advised such running legends as Joan Benoit Samuelson (first women’s Olympic marathon winner), Jim Ryun (3x Olympian and world record holder), and sub 2:10 marathoners Ken Martin and Jerry Lawson. Renowned Sports Psychologist Jerry Lynch, a well-known author of several books and instructional DVDs and is best known for his collaborations with NCAA-winning sports teams at Duke, Maryland and Stanford. Other coaches scheduled to speak at the 2 day coaching clinic include: Iowa State University’s throws coach John Dagata, Florida State University Associate Head Coach Harlis Meaders, Tennessee’s Norbert Elliott, Central College’s Eric Pingel, and Dan Pfaff, who has been on three Olympic track coaching staffs and seven World Championship staffs, may be best known around the world as the coach of the 1996 100-meter dash gold medallist and world record holder, Donovan Bailey.
Instructional sessions will begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. and end Saturday at 12:30 p.m. There will be a total of 18 sessions covering many varied aspects of track & field and cross country, including an Iowa High School rules session. The Iowa Track Coaches and Iowa Track Officials Hall of Fame and Coach/Official of the Year Awards Ceremony and Banquet will immediately follow the clinic.
