What are some things that you do for that early stage of preseason conditioning. Running in the halls seems to produce shin splints over the years for my runners. What are some things that you've found to help prevent shin splints.

Shin splints result from too much running, too soon, and sometimes from hard surfaces. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Good shoes are important (shoes with good support and cushoning).
2. Running in place on a high jump pit will not only help to rid shin splints, but will help conditioning too. Workouts on the high jump pit can repeat 30 or 60 second runs. These may also be longer, lasting several minutes.
