Excerpt from an article featuring Championship Author Denny Diericx.

“We all believe in what teams like Navy, Air Force and Georgia Tech did over the years and we’ve always wanted to emulate it,” Diericx said. “I guess you could say we’re like a club.”

As Diericx explained, there are three options to guard against each time the ball is snapped.

“It’s not an ordinary offense where a quarterback can drop back and you know what’s going to happen,” Diericx said. “In this offense, the quarterback can either hand it off to the fullback, run it himself or pitch it outside. As a defense, you have to take care of three things. It really puts the defense in assignment conflict.”
Defenses are starting to slow down the spread. Adding the Pistol to your offensive package can give your team a new wrinkle and keep the defense guessing.
It's also a great way to add a power run game element to your offense.

to all coaches - many of us need to understand the importance of training cycles when it comes to developing our programs. staying current with health and fitness, what's new in the industry of training athletes, and knowing how to be the strength and conditioning coach if you don't have one. there are some quotes i use for myself that state; coaching is formed from love, you can't coach if you don't love your players, and if you don't love your players like your owne children, then get out of coaching. also, a player does not care how much i know, until they know how much i care. so with that said, do you care about their training program and are you concerned on how to get the greatest optimal results and give them what they need as citizens and scholar athletes? that answer better be yes.

macrocycle - training program for the entire year of competition
mesocycle - the weeks and months of specific training goals
microcycle - the time spent on each training goal and maintainence of physical adaptation

know these things. know when, why, and how to train for hypertrophy (muscle size and growth) - strength - muscle endurance and power, know how to train so you don't lose it and how to increase a players aeobic capacity. identify the energy systems involved in your sport(s) such as the phosphagen, glycolitic, and oxidative glycolysis, what they do, when are they activated and how to train in that zone. get certified as a coach or as personal trainer, and take classes on physical fitness and nutrition (it can save you money so you don't have to pay my fees to teach you this stuff. LOL :D )

Coaching Players That Know Nothing about the game (2 replies)

My Name Is Ahmad El Refaey I am an Egyptian that lived in the US and played Football for Hilliard Davidson High School. I returned to Egypt after High School 2 years ago. Recently I alongside other ex-players like myself decided to start a football club/school in Egypt, trying to spread the game and make it more popular and known. We have a very good turnout so far, but we have few obstacle we have to deal with, and i am looking for help overcoming these obstacles:

1-We have been coaching from memory so far, and we are on a semi-limited budget due to currency differences, so what are the best package of instructional videos that we should buy.

2- Most of the players are not Athletes and they lake the discipline, commitment , drive, motivation, competitiveness, and love for the game. how can i properly install that into them.

3- most of the players (90%) know nothing about the game, other than what they've seen in movies and many problems occur because of that :

a- They all want to be WRs/RBs/QBs they think playing defense and Line is extremely Boring, and no matter how much i emphasize on how important the defense and the line are they are not convinced.

b- they have a very misconstrued image about football, how can i change that.

I appreciate all your help and thank you in advance

Ahmad El Refaey

Here is an excellent way to improve reaction - strength in acceleration - hand eye coordination and possibly other other areas.

get an 8 pound med ball - lineman facing lineman - start in three point stance with the med ball in between the lineman - on the coaches signal the faster lineman picks up the med ball and pops into a hit position or pass blocking stance tossing the med ball to the lineman he is facing with a forcefull chest pass - they pass this back and forth side shuffling 10 yards and on the signal of the coach, no matter who has the med ball or if it is in transition - the designated D lineman makes a move to get passed the designated O lineman as he must react and stop the D lineman.

the same can be used with DB's and WR's. when the coach gives the signal, no matter what or where that med ball is, the WR must take flight and the DB must react and perform.
