Synthetic Turf Council Accepting Entries for National Contest Search 4 Real Field of Dreams (no replies)

Synthetic Turf Council Accepting Entries for its Annual ‘Search for the Real Field of Dreams’
One-of-a-kind contest open to qualified applicants in the United States and Canada

The Synthetic Turf Council is now accepting submissions for its fifth annual Search for the Real Field of Dreams, which recognizes the power that synthetic turf has to transform communities and schools, and keep youth active, healthy and fit. The unique national contest is open to schools (K-12 and college), parks, businesses and public spaces in the United States and Canada that have compelling stories about the impact of their synthetic turf field or installation.

"Winning this national competition in 2012 for our field was a great honor,” said David Manzo, President, The Cotting School in Lexington, Massachusetts. "The opportunity to create a synthetic playing field on our campus was a dream come true for our students. The cheers at our Saturday morning Challenger Little League games can be heard across our campus and the smiles of the students and their families can be seen for miles around!"

More than 8,000 synthetic turf athletic fields are in use across North America, along with numerous playgrounds and recreation spaces. Interested students, coaches, faculty, parents, parks and recreation managers, business owners and local supporters can easily nominate an installation. Submissions are due by September 1, 2013 and will be evaluated by an independent panel of judges. The Grand Prize is $1,000, and all winners receive publicity and a modest cash award. Visit www.syntheticturfcouncil.org to learn more.

Established in 2009, STC’s Search for the Real Field of Dreams is open to any school, park, business, municipality or organization that currently has a synthetic turf field, park, playground or surface in use. The size of the space doesn’t matter; it is judged on the impact made on individuals and the community. Fields must be installed by an STC member company. Previously submitted entries can be resubmitted with the exception of the Grand Prize or Top Category Winners. Past winners have included a community park that serves over 17,000 children with physical and cognitive challenges, a once-failing high school whose playing field helped bolster the student graduation rate and a Navajo Nation elementary school that increased student fitness levels.

Hello,

I have been looking around the web searching for a site that could answer some of my questions and hopefully this is the one. I am currently a M.S student in Sports administration at an accredited university (2 months until graduation) I received my b.s is exercise science as well. I am currently looking into high school AD jobs at private high schools and/or assistant A.D jobs at very small colleges (division III mostly).

I guess my question is, would a k-12 certification be beneficial for the high school AD position? (mainly private) Do private high schools not "need" a k-12 certification, just a M.S? (I know this is how it works in private colleges) Lastly, how would I go about getting my foot in the door for the D-III position (or any position really) I have been volunteer coaching high school baseball for about 3 years now and I do have college playing experience, currently an assistant manager at GNC (hey it's a part time job, leave it be) and I'm in my last two months of schooling. If anyone could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.

Best,

So I'm a student and our gym floor is awful. It's for recreational use only as the school doesn't have any teams. But we have started an in school league for basketball. The gym has gone un-cared for many years. I've asked the school's facilities to clean the courts. They did appease my request with a dry mop, but that only removed the top layer of dust. I've looked into expensive restoration systems, services, and cleaning tools, all of which I doubt the school will fund.

Can elbow grease, soap, water, and mops restore a decent amount of take to play competitively and safe?

I am also looking to see what the average Middle School coaching stipend is? I am looking to add assistant coaches to my program but am not sure how much they should get paid compared to head coaches.

We have a real issue with our wood floor, which seems significantly more slippery than it should be, even with the dust buildup we get.

Can anyone recommend a cleaning solution that will help the floor remain tacky and clean?

It is possible that we may have used the wrong type of varnish - what would be the optimal varnish for an indoor wooden floor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

NEWS RELEASE:

Synthetic Turf Council Launches the ‘Search for the Real Field of Dreams™’

Atlanta, Ga. – From ‘Rudy’ to ‘Remember the Titans,’ everyone knows a heartwarming sports story. Unfortunately, some of the best stories are never heard. That’s why the Synthetic Turf Council is launching the Search for the Real Field of Dreams, a national contest looking for the high school with the most compelling story about its synthetic turf field. Synthetic turf empowered the Barrow Whalers to become the first Arctic high school football team in northern Alaska and helped Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, New York win the New York State Field Hockey Championship in 2006. With more than 1,000 synthetic turf fields installed in the United States annually, the success stories are endless.

“We’ve seen the way synthetic turf fields have helped teams go from worst to first and brought together entire communities,” said STC president Rick Doyle. “It’s important for the inspirational stories behind these fields to be shared. The pride high school students have in their sports teams is unique, and the Search gives them an opportunity to inspire others nationwide.”

The Search for the Real Field of Dreams is open to any public or private high school in the United States that has a synthetic turf field. A winning school will be selected in April by an outside panel of judges and will win $2,500 for its athletic program, along with a sign recognizing its field as a contribution to the overall success of its athletic program. In addition, the second place school will receive $500 and eight national finalists will receive $250 for their schools. Interested students, coaches, faculty and parents can nominate their school by filling out the application at www.syntheticturfcouncil.org. Entries are due by March 31, 2009.
