It’s that time again when most coaches are sitting down planning their track and field season for 2008. I would like to once again personally thank everyone who supported the Percy Knox Invitational™ last year.



The meet date has been changed to Friday March 21st & Saturday March 22nd. The date was changed due to the request of many schools to move the date up a week, in order to have more time to prepare their runners. Friday will be a Twilight Distance Carnival with the field events and the sprint running events being held on Saturday.



2007 track season; the 3rd annual Percy Knox Invitational™ came on strong and heavy with its line up of schools and athletes. Out of 330 track and field meets held in California, we were rated #3 overall, only second to Mt. Sac and Arcadia Invitational.



We were one of four high school track and field meets recommended by USA track and field magazine as the meet to attend in Southern California. The meet was also one of three Invitational track meets that had more state contenders than any other invitational. We had some of California’s most elite boys and girls high school track and field athletes.



Like any new business; we had our share of mishaps. 2005, 2006, and 2007 meets, we had the host schools run our invitational track meets with the proceeds being divided among them.



With the growth of the 2007 meet, it was too overwhelming for our 2007 host school’s to properly run the meet as smoothly as it could have been ran.



As Chairman of the foundation, I took full responsibility for the mishaps that occurred in the running of this meet. I have taken new steps to insure: the proper, and the timely running of next years meet.



A lot has changed for us at the Percy Knox Foundation since last season. I would like to share a few of our new changes for 2008.





New The City of Santa Clarita will be joining us in co-hosting and running the 2008 track and field meet.


New James Logan (Northern California) and Long Beach Poly will co host the meet, but they will not be running the meet as previous host schools in the past.


New The College of the Canyons is now the permanent home of the Percy Knox Invitational™


We have schools from New York, Texas, and Jamaica already trying to make plans on attending our 2008 meet.


In honor of the 2008 Olympic year, we will be honoring ten of our past Southern California Olympians, plus we will also run and honor a kids 100 meters Special Olympics event.


We will continue to donate funds to various High Schools and Jr. Colleges track and field programs.


New The meet is now a two day meet, Friday March 21st & Saturday March 22nd
Friday will be a Twilight Distance Carnival. This will keep the meet from running too long.



· The track committee has agreed to keep the meet with no standards. This will allow every school to bring a team instead of just elite athletes.



· New Athletes will have a choice between awards: trophy or medal.



· We will run up to nine heats vs. three like most meets. Awards will be issued to the first three finishers.



· Low entry fees. For $250.00, you will be able to enter your boy’s and girl’s teams both nights and for $150 you can enter a single team.



I would like for you to strongly consider attending our meet. We are fast on our way to our goal of spreading $250,000 around to various High School’s and Jr. Colleges. Together we can all make this work. We are the meet of the people; this is your meet, where everyone comes out a winner.

Many of the nation’s top track and field athletes will gather for the 3rd annual Percy Knox Invitational Track and Field Meet March 17th 2007.

Tickets are now on sell for the 3rd annual Percy Knox Invitational. Receive $2.00 off the $10.00 admission with internet purchase, tickets are non-profit and tax deductible. The College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, California will play host to some of the nation’s elite, on its eight lanes all weather track.


Over seventy schools from across California will compete in what is sure to be one of California’s premier Track and Field show downs. Such schools as: Long Beach Poly (Boys State Champions) James Logan (Girls State Champions), along with top schools like: J.W. North, Rancho Cucamonga, Canyon, Diamond Ranch, Skyline, Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) and Loyola just to name a few, is sure to kick the season off to a great start.



The men’s 400 meters is projected to be one of the best races at the sprints this year. State champion Bryshon Nellum 46.2 (Long Beach Poly), Nevin Gutierrez (J.W. North) 46.79 and Chris Barton (Notre Dame Sherman Oaks) 47.7 will sure to lead a star field pack.



The boy’s relay is sure to have you jumping off of your seat, and cheering your team to victory with the 4x4 and the 4x1.

Notre Dame (Boys) are the returning California State Champions in the 400m relay with a time of 41.27 and Long Beach Poly with a best time mark of 40.83 set at Arcadia Invitational in 2006. Lets not forget J.W. North (Boys) last years early season mark of 3:11 in the 4x4 relay, or that Newburge Elite Track Club from Newburgh, New York, has one of the fastest time in the Nation this year in the 4x4 indoors with a time of 3.19:29. They are not flying all the way down to California to bring an unloaded team.



State champion Terry Prentice (Diamond Ranch) will headline a quality field in the men’s 110m 13.83 & 300m hurdles 36.79, along with Jeshua Anderson 36.71 of (Taft).



The women’s 400 meters will be equally top notch with the likes of Simplot indoor champion Turquoise Thompson (Long Beach Poly) 53.78 and Jasmine Joseph (Long Beach Poly)



In addition to the sprints, the distance events will consist of top distance runners in both men’s and women’s field. State 1600m Champions; Fawad Khan (Palos Verdes), and Steve Calise (San Pedro). The Girls 1600m Champions: Shannon Murakami (Saugus) Kevyn Murphy (Mira Costa) and Katja Goldring (Hamilton), plus schools like: Canyon, Loyola, and Mira Costa is sure to turn up the heat, on these top runners.

My name is Coach Tim Wells; I’m the meet director for the Percy Knox invitational track and field meet. We at the foundation are striding hard to promote and produce a top rated track meet that reaches out to various schools across the nation.

This meet was developed as a model track and field meet for the rest of the nation to see. We developed this meet to be a large fund raiser for less fortunate schools who might not have the facilities, skills, time, or even the resources to put on such a large caliper track and field meet.

This is a Cinderella meet, each year the meet is rotated among two or more host schools. The host schools put up zero dollars and the foundation promotes the meet and splits the proceeds with the host schools to help run their track and field programs. We are non-profit, the rest of the funds are used for cost; Administrative,
Facilities, Trophies, etc.

We give out give out trophies instead of medals, we help less fortunate schools with cost for logging and we have a low entry fee to run at our meet. But unfortunately this all cost money to run such a large meet.

We have received hits in the United States from Hawaii, mid west, south, and east coast. This site has the four remaining Golden League meets available over the internet as live streaming video.

I watched the Bislett games as well as the World Championships and it was the best coverage I have seen! For you distance fans (like myself), I couldn't believe that I was able to see the WHOLE 10,000m! And, the coverage of all the field events is great as well.

This beats the US television coverage hands-down. If you are like me and hate seeing those "human interest" stories while you know good events are going on, check this out!

The drive phase is from the time where the sprinter comes out of the starting blocks to 20 meters down the track. During this phase the spinter is keeping their head and upper body down.
