Winning is a mere united effort of many. A coach's playbook is a place where they can record their team's dreams, goals and competitive desires. A difficulty frequently faced in basketball by many coaches in today's game; is getting their players to react to a defense in a positive, posed, and controlled manner. Flipping the pages of your playbook should reveal a combination of tactical highlights collect from various resources throughout the game. Personally, my playbook is a biography of the the coaches who have come before me; whether I came across the X's and O's from some from an opponent along the way or an awesome online resource, it has helped improve my success and defined my future. Begin finding plays for your playbook today!

Scramble. Is it Predictable? (1 reply)

PLAYING TOUGH, man-to-mandefense is the cornerstone of most coaching philosophies. Even when your team is not blessed with explosive offensive firepower, you still remain competitive by getting after it on the defensive end.

But, predictability often leads to defeat. Simply playing man-to-man all the time allows the opposition to know what to expect. Teams no longer have to scout you and opposing coaches become familiar with your tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. You as a coach become stale by barking out the same instructions over and over again. Sure, a good coach who believes in his man-to-man defense never is going to abandon it but to break out of your predictability, try installing a new defense, like the Scramble Defense.

There are many great resources out there for a scramble defense. One of the best in my opinion is Coach Mac's Basketball Playbooks, another is Coach Gels 'Coaches Clipboard'. I suggest if your interested in the scramble check them out.

Since our enrollment numbers are not what we expected and after talking with many HS Coaches we have decided to reduce the price of the 2009 College Field Hockey Camp to $199. www.collegefieldhockeycamp.com

This is our first year running this event and we have college coaches coming who are hoping to find some talented players who can some day play for their schools and I don't want to let them down.

We do have several All State and All County Players already registered, but we would like more players of every ability.

There are great opportunities to play Field Hockey in College at all levels, not just D1. We can help you find those.

We will be issuing refunds to those who paid $299.

I am having an issue with this! I recently bought 2 DVD's of Kevin Sutton only to see that he did the same drills if not more in his previous DVD series... I was in the market of purchasing EASTMAN dvd but I am unsure because I think I will get the same drills from his previous 3 tapes series... Can anyone help with this question...

Slippery Gym Floor Solution...? (2 replies)

We have a real issue with our wood floor, which seems significantly more slippery than it should be, even with the dust buildup we get.

Can anyone recommend a cleaning solution that will help the floor remain tacky and clean?

It is possible that we may have used the wrong type of varnish - what would be the optimal varnish for an indoor wooden floor?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Fast Break / In-bounding Philosophy (no replies)

Obviously, for running teams, triggering the fast break is crucial. When getting the ball out of bounds, it seems that most coaches either:
1) designate one player (usually a big man) to get the ball out every time
or
2) They let the closer of two players (usually either the 4 or the 5) take it out.

It seems as though there are a lot of successful teams that take one approach, and a lot of successful teams that the other approach. This past year, I had a designated take out man, and I felt like there were too many situations where he was caught away from the basket, and we lost opportunities to break quickly off of made buckets.

I'm curious to hear from other coaches which approach they take, and why?

My second question is for anyone who has run successfully with a 4 guard lineup - what is your in-bounding philosophy? Do you send your one big to the block every time and arbitrarily select one of your guards as a "4" man to get it out every time? Or do you inbound by committee?

Thanks in advance
-Coach Scott
