"Getting this video is like finding a hidden goldmine. It''s excellent safe and unorthodox counter offense wrestling at its best. These moves are not part of basic fundamental wrestling of most wrestling clubs but they are basic enough to be able to be mastered by most wrestlers of average ability. What makes these techniques better than the modern day funk wrestling is that they are much safer to perform." - Customer Review

with Randy Lewis,
1984 Olympic Gold Medalist;
2X NCAA Champ, 4X All-American for the University of Iowa;
3x State Champion high school wrestler (South Dakota);
was a member of the 1980 Olympic team (did not compete because of the American boycott of Moscow Olympics)

Randy Lewis presents a counter offense video like no other. As a wrestler, Lewis used to bait opponents into shooting a single or high crotch. His philosophy was that no matter where he was on the mat, he was in position to score. Now, in this clinic demonstration, Lewis passes along the techniques that made him one of the most dangerous wrestlers from the feet. Once your opponent gets a leg, Lewis wants to do one of two things - square the hips or get the man to his knees. In each position, Lewis shows a number of different moves that will allow your wrestler to score - and even put his opponent to his back. In addition, he shows how to score if the opponent has your wrestler's foot in the air, if he collapses the leg, and how to score from a low single shot. These techniques are more than defensive moves - they will allow your wrestlers to always be on the offense!

45 minutes. 2005.

While the content is a 5 I'm going to review this dvd at most a 3. The reason for this is the fact that the dvd techniques were done very fast in every instance that it is really hard to see and learn from the details of each technique. Also most techniques I saw were done only once so you do not get to review the technique. Another problem with this and many older videos is that there are no chapters and labeling, which means you have to fast forward or rewind which takes a lot of time to get to your desired technique. While the techniques are good it is too fast for someone new to the technique to pick up with out rewind in multiple times and difficult even then, which turns the dvd into more of a demonstration than an instructional. I give it a 3 for the techniques and a 2 for everything else.

Getting this video is like finding a hidden goldmine. It's excellent safe and unorthodox counter offense wrestling at its best. These moves are not part of basic fundamental wrestling of most wrestling clubs but they are basic enough to be able to be mastered by most wrestlers of average ability. What makes these techniques better than the modern day funk wrestling is that they are much safer to perform. It's not what is known in judo as a sacrifice throw. Randy Lewis doesn't teach you to roll over your back or somersault over your opponent to score but these moves are sure to surprise most of your competition. Randy Lewis also has a great philosophy about these moves. They are not defensive in nature. They are offensive in nature. If you can do these techniques then you're always in scoring position. If your opponent is in on a high crotch, you're in scoring position. If he's in on a single leg, you're in scoring position. By the 3rd period he'll be afraid to take a shot on you if not sooner than that. This is a great video. Use it with John Smith's Scrambling: Scoring from a Bad Position to help make your wrestlers invulnerable.

This DVD, for me, was only about 70% of what I was hoping for. Randy Lewis is known for his ability to fend off shots, but for me some of the material presented here is basic enough to be found on Youtube. However, some techniques shown are ones I have begun to incorporate into my arsenal and have found some success with. Overall, I am glad that I purchased this DVD.

The most exciting wrestler I remember! He doesn't teach rolling around funk. He teaches how to counter shots usually to back points. You won't see other dvd's teach his series. If kids learn this they will be feared.
