Technique from the Feet for Heavyweights

with Kerry McCoy, University of Maryland Head Coach;
Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2014);
3x ACC Coach of the Year; 2x ACC Champions; 2008 US Olympic Assistant Coach;
2x NCAA Champion at Penn State; 2x Olympic Wrestler (finishing 5th in 2000 and 7th in 2004); 2003 World Championships (silver medal); 3x All American at Penn State; 1997 Hodge Trophy winner

Kerry McCoy shows in great detail different ways for your heavyweight to increase his offense from his feet while decreasing his opponents scoring chances. The cornerstone to successful wrestling is proper stance - the wrestler in the best position will win every time! Following that philosophy, McCoy starts with a step-by-step look at the proper stance that will increase your wrestler's mobility and optimize his positioning. McCoy covers two of his favorite takedowns - the High Crotch and Sweep Single. McCoy breaks down each move clearly, showing at least three different set-ups and finishes for each move. The key points are hammered home through repetitious drilling of each set-up and finish. This is a great tape for the beginning heavyweight who is looking to become comfortable on his feet, and for the advanced heavyweight who is looking to fine-tune his technique.

Bottom Position: Explode Off the Whistle!

with Kerry McCoy, University of Maryland Head Coach;
Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2014);
3x ACC Coach of the Year; 2x ACC Champions; 2008 US Olympic Assistant Coach;
2x NCAA Champion at Penn State; 2x Olympic Wrestler (finishing 5th in 2000 and 7th in 2004); 2003 World Championships (silver medal); 3x All American at Penn State; 1997 Hodge Trophy winner

McCoy begins with some basic tips and drills your wrestler can use to get the advantage before the whistle even blows. He then presents four moves that your heavyweights can use to escape from the bottom position. Included are basic moves (the Stand-Up and the Changeover), advanced moves (Knee Across), and moves used to score quick points (Elevator Roll). McCoy covers the critical points for each move your wrestler needs to know to make the move successful. As an added bonus McCoy covers four different techniques to defend against leg riders. This tape provides a solid base to work on bottom fundamentals. With training and drilling these moves can be used against any opponent your wrestler faces.

Top Position: Controlling Your Opponent

with Kerry McCoy, University of Maryland Head Coach;
Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (2014);
3x ACC Coach of the Year; 2x ACC Champions; 2008 US Olympic Assistant Coach;
2x NCAA Champion at Penn State; 2x Olympic Wrestler (finishing 5th in 2000 and 7th in 2004); 2003 World Championships (silver medal); 3x All American at Penn State; 1997 Hodge Trophy winner

Kerry McCoy provides an in-depth look at the top position, presenting a number of tips and techniques that will help your wrestler stop his opponent's explosion from the bottom. McCoy begins with a look at the proper technique to use when breaking down an opponent. He passes along three secrets that your wrestler can use to get an advantage over his opponent before the whistle even blows! From there he moves into scoring from the top, starting with a tilt series. This series features five different tilts your wrestler can use based on what his opponent does or how much time is left. McCoy always looks to score with a tilt first, but if he can't he flows into a leg series or bar arm series. He shows a number of different scoring variations to use from these two series. With all these options available, McCoy shows how easy it will be for your wrestler to float from one scoring opportunity to another.

51 minutes. 2002.
