Choosing Top Position: Four Moves to Dominate

Choosing Top Position: Four Moves to Dominate

with Mitch Clark,
former Ohio State University Assistant Coach,
NCAA Champion, 2X All-American

Mitch Clark was the first-ever wrestler to record a technical fall in the first period in the NCAA finals. In this video he combines drills with technique to show how to dominate from the top position. Clark begins with a brief overview of the spiral breakdown, passing along tips on how he has tweaked the move. From there he covers four different pinning series: Figure Four, Power Half, Tight Waist and Wrist Half (Clark's specialty). Each series is thoroughly explained and demonstrated. Clark closes with drills to help hit these combinations every time. This tape will give wrestlers the confidence to take the top position every time!

39 minutes. 2003.

Mitch shows a turk and power 1/2 with a leg in and a tilt and Gene Mills spiral without the leg in and how to go from move to move. He only shows a few moves, but it keeps it simple enough that you can teach it the way he does it. Mitch shows a couple of effective changes he's made in these moves. I find his version of a spiral breakdown to be a great breakdown against a opponent who likes to standup. He shows a small difference in how he slides the leg out on a power 1/2, a different way to set up a spiral 1/2. Best feature is how he shows to drill these 4 moves together.
