During his junior and senior year, none of Ben Askren's opponent's wanted to ride him. They chose the lesser of two evils and let him up for fear of getting thrown to their back for a 5-point move by one of his unique escapes. Now, Askren opens his 'bag of tricks' and presents a number of creative wrestling techniques to add to your bottom position arsenal. Askren begins with his favorite escapes - the tripod. He details the proper position and demonstrates five different escapes. Askren teaches his elevator escape, which is good against an opponent who wants to chop the arm and also, how to escape from the crab ride, from leg defense, how to escape when the opponent hooks your ankle, plus, how to get away once you get to your feet; instead of a traditional 1-point escape, let Ben Askren show you how to get the fall!

No one knows funk like Ben Askren but all of his videos should come with a warning that says these techniques are not a replacement for tried and true basics. One of the problems I''ve had with some of my wrestlers is that they love these moves so much they''re no longer interested in practicing the fundamentals. However, that isn''t Ben Askren''s fault so don''t let it take anything away from this video. It''s just that not only are these moves effective but they''re also fun to use and watch. The truth is that these techniques are simply brilliant. You''ll have to learn how to think outside the box to get good at them and recognize when to use them. Developing that thought process has a learning curve just like developing the skills to use these techniques has a learning curve. You''ll have to make a decision on what to spend your time on and how much time you want to spend on what but the bottom line is that these techniques work. Not only that but their unorthodox style puts your opponent at a significant disadvantage when trying to defend them. I recommend this DVD for the advanced wrestlers or tall and lanky or slow moving wrestlers who may be having a problem with traditional bottom work.
I didn''t like this video much. Not too practical like his cradle video. The video has some good stuff.Championship Productions replies:Coach, Please check our return policy for details on how you can receive a refund or exchange this item for something that better meets your needs. I got this DVD just to check it out because all the other Askren stuff I picked up has been nothing shy of great.
Well this DVD over delivered for sure. It was outstanding and I was able to do many of these techniques right away.
The way Ben teaches is the best I've seen. He does a really good job of breaking down the steps and details. He leaves nothing out and hides not a thing.
I'm short and thick, so don't think because you're not lanky/skinny that this stuff won't work for you. It did for me and for my students of all sizes.
Two thumbs up!
If you have the length to master a good tripod -- and then incorporate a handful of the tricks shown here by Askren -- you're going to win a whole lot of matches on a single compound move.
The best information there is on working from a heavyweight standup. Ben shows lots of small tricks and several ways to beat leg riders.
