John Smith looks at a number of common "bad" situations you find yourself in once you get stopped on a takedown attempt - and how to come out of those positions and score. In this wrestling DVD, Coach Smith concentrates on two main areas - the single leg and high crotch. He shows how to score when you are on your stomach in extended position with hands locked, in a front headlock position, in an underhook and more. He closes the DVD with a couple drills he uses with his wrestlers to reinforce these techniques. These are positions you don't want to be in, but if you get there you can still win the battle and score. These techniques are the same ones he used with great success - winning six consecutive world championships, and will definitely make a difference for you in a match. They will help you recover from a bad shot and put points on the board once you have been stopped. This instructional wrestling DVD is truly a "one-of-a-kind"!

Just watched this video today. I liked how he stressed pulling the arm down before doing a drag out so you don't get knee tapped in say a front headlock situation. The drags he showed were awesome! The peek out is a very good move if you find yourself stopped with both hands on the mat. Mark Schultz was good at peek outs as I recall. Simply knowing how to get your knees under you and perhaps posting a hand if needed to get elevation can really help you finish your shots. Wouldn't it be nice to know that even if extended to your belly you could still regain position and score that takedown that was initially stopped? Smith says something to the effect that it's those second and third efforts that can really make the difference in whether you score or not. Don't let being initially stopped be the end of your offense. You can still score! Overall, I recommend this video. If you shoot takedowns then you will almost certainly find yourself extended at some point or perhaps just performing a bad shot. So, why not be ready for when those situations occur? I was happy with the quality of this video. It came in clear with good sound on my DVD player. It's a quality product.

Great DVD again. Very essential information for wrestlers of all levels. 1) He starts out talking about being stuffed on a single leg. Goes throw a series of techniques. Nothing too advanced, but outstanding detail. 2) Shows techniques versus front healock and underhooks on the mat. Again, nothing too advanced, but great detail here. 3) Shows some things from Hi-C. Same as above. Overall: Not the most advanced techniques, but very essential. Breaks everything down in a lot of detail, shows everything from multiple angles. Title is a bit of a misnomer - shoulder be something more - finishing takedowns with second efforts, or something like that. Doesn't talk about beating funk/scrambling defense, which would have been great.

This has been the most valuable DVD for my son. As an inexperienced wrestler, he was afraid to shoot. After watching this one, he is not--because if he misses, he knows either that he is going to score or his opponent will not. This is his favorite DVD. Smith is his favorite clinician and now he seeks out former Smith coached wrestlers for his clinicians. (I.E. the Purler Brothers and Tony Gansen.)

Probably one of the most helpful DVD's available. How to score from short offense situations. He covers several situations in detail. He always seems to have more technique than others.
