Most notably, Coach Cozart is the architect of "The Streak", an unreachable high school scholastic sports record of 459 straight dual meet victories that escalated over the course three decades! A 2012 inductee into the Florida Hall of Fame, Coach Cozart is also a two-time National High School Coach of the Year and eight-time Florida Coach of the Year.

MondayCoach Cozart begins by putting the team through a track practice, followed immediately with a circuit in the weight room. From there, Coach moves his team to the mat as they do their basic skills warm-up that includes acrobatics, scrambles, neck work and back arches. The drilling portion of Cozart's practice includes top position work, neutral arm up drilling (horning up), hand fighting, bottom position drilling, and takedowns on your knees from a sprawled opponent. He finishes off practice with 30 minutes of live wrestling.
TuesdayTechniques include hip heists, leg ride counters, and arm up (horn up) drills. Drags and ankle picks are covered from standing position, and arm chop and spiral series are covered from top position. After 30 minutes of live wrestling, Coach Cozart puts his team through a "warm-down", consisting of three sets of rope climbing partnered off with various calisthenics designed to work his team hard.
WednesdayWhile beginning with the team's standard basic skills drills and ending with live wrestling, this practice focuses more on techniques from the neutral position. Takedowns drilled are single legs, arm drags, duck unders, ankle picks, and firemen carries.
ThursdayTapering down, Coach Cozart puts the team through the most technique-oriented practice of the week, one that he traditionally uses the day before a tournament. Each team member performs his favorite technique from all three starting positions. Coach demonstrates how to troubleshoot a stalemate position from a single leg attack that he has been seeing in live wrestling this week. He also goes over some of his favorite specialty moves. The team focuses on upper body throws including attacks from collar ties, underhooks, whizzers, lateral tie-ups (over-under position), and bear hugs.
I have purchased quite a few DVDs over the past year and the quality of the instruction is first rate. However, Russ Cozarts DVD is like being inside the mind of a genius for an entire week. His approach is simple, organized, and insightful. I recommend this DVD to all new coaches, like myself, who are looking for a template on how to train your wrestlers for greatness. This DVD and the ones by Ken Chertow is the standard bearer when it comes to training high school wrestlers. I highly recommend this DVD.
