Features & Benefits Learn to set a solid volleyball passing platform Train your eye to troubleshoot technical challenges Learn an effective body shift vs. arm swing with Bond Shymansky, former University of Iowa Head Coach;former Marquette University Head Coach; 2013 Big East Champs;former Georgia Tech Head Volleyball Coach; 2004 ACC Coach of the Year Coach Bond Shymansky focuses on non-linear passing, specifically the platform passing technique. Platform passing starts with the players' feet, toes, knees, shoulders and hips all square to the ball, not to the target area. Moving players use two shuffle steps to get into position for the ball. Hand positioning is key and Shymansky prefers the overlapping technique, or fist technique, for non-linear passing. Thumbs are pushed down to the floor as elbows are extended out. The contact point is in the forearm area with the left hand over right. Contact should happen at the knee level and important to non-linear passing. The next key in successful platform passing is the shift. The focus is on creating power by shifting the body, not by swinging the arms. Holding your angle when hitting the ball gives feedback after the ball is hit. The exaggerated hold move is known as a take away and it the last major point Shymansky covers. Several key troubleshooting issues are described and demonstrated. Drop step passing, hands passing, and send/receive tactics round out the Complete Guide to Passing video! 52 minutes. 2007. Ratings & Reviews The Complete Guide to Passing: Technique, Tactics & Drills on September 16, 2012 Currently 4/5 Stars.4/5 Stars 4 by WillFoote918 This is a great tape. Coach Shymansky delivers delivers solid information in a clear and concise manner. His instructional style is succinct and to the point. It is well shot and techniques are clearly modeled. I would have given it a 5 but the tape preview material doesn't make it clear- especially to a new coach- that he is going over non-linear passing which is a very advanced high level style of play. I was looking for an entry level tape but I still found the tape very educational and would recommend it to others. 8 of 9 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful?
