Team dynamics, and the ability of the coach to foster its development, is crucial to the sport of volleyball. Coach Carlston reviews the five steps of team dynamics: preparation, foundation, nurture and maintenance, reflection and rebirth. The five steps are discussed in detail. Preparation (pre-season) explains the importance of knowing your team and understanding your vision of the team. Building relationships through a team retreat and developing a practice setting are the key points in the foundation step (beginning of season). The nurture and maintenance step encourages team rituals and the importance of player journals. Finally, the reflection and rebirth steps explain the importance of staff and player reviews, checking in with players and preparing for the next season. The development of team culture and leadership roles plays an important part to the success of your team.
