Andrew Blanks has enjoyed considerable success coaching hurdlers at Houston (TX) Westbury HS. In Ahtlens in 2004, Blanks had two former hurdlers make the finals in Men's 400M Hurdles. Coach Blanks feels strongly that success with hurdlers lies in the art of teaching the event and in this presentation, shares with you his progressions and sequences for teaching the hurdles.

Coach Blank's begins with a nine-phase progression of hurdle walkovers. Blanks believes that the walkover sequence affords the hurdler to drill a variety of key technical components for the hurdles, along with the added benefit of mobilities for the athlete. Blanks focuses upon the arm position and the proper technique for both the lead leg and trail leg. Blanks shares a series of hurdle specific stretches he believe are critical for healthy training and technical enhancement. Blanks carries the technical elements from the controlled walkover drills into running the hurdles and shares technique, drills and strategies for the 100/110 and the 300 hurdles.

Blanks approach is simple and precise and his methods are innovative and effective.
