This has been called, by no less an authority than Fred Wilt, the greatest book on high school cross-country. I emphatically agree. I wore the cover off my copy (literally).

The book was put together after Joe's team won a State championship in 1968. You may not completely agree with Joe's workouts from back then--he wouldn't either!--but his ideas on motivation and recruitment and team building/organization are pure gold, and have stood the test of time: 20+ additional State championships in the years since the book's publication.

If I could recommend only one book to a coach who wanted to build a program, or to move a program from mediocrity to competitive excellence, this book would be it.
