Coach Frazier discusses many of the common errors shot putters encounter and shows easy to follow drills that can correct them. First he introduces the non-reverse standing throw, while using athletes to demonstrate both the right and wrong way of executing this throwing technique. Without the proper technique, athletes will shift, open up and fall out of the ring during the throw. Young athletes must learn how to hold their throws. Using the half turn into a reverse, Coach Frazier discusses and demonstrates the proper techniques and shows how to correct most common errors young athletes develop early in the throw. Corrections are made with several repetitions using the South African Drill. Dipping and falling to the middle of the ring are common mistakes with the South African technique, and Coach Frazier discusses how to overcome these. The full throw is then demonstrated using slow motion action to allow coaches to see the proper technique of each phase. Frazier introduces several key drills including the 360 degree drill that helps develop proper balance for all athletes. Additional drills he discusses with proper techniques are separation, staying in the ring and the jump drill.
