In the past 10 years, Cappos has produced All-American and Big Ten Champions in the discus throw. In the past three seasons, he also has coached three Iowa athletes over 180 feet, and not one of these throwers were over 180' in high school! Cappos begins his teaching progression with the basics of the proper grip. He then proceeds with seven different non-throwing drills before introducing nine different drills that incorporate the actual throw. Cappos then pulls it all together with a technique review of meet throws offering analysis and coaching tips along with slow motion analysis. Cappos next discusses coaching styles and discus conditions: reverse/no reverse, influences on discus distance (technical aspects), and a discussion of discus types and rim weight.
