Dr. Allen Fox, former coach Pepperdine University men's tennis team;
his teams reached the NCAA finals twice, the semi-finals three times, and the quarter-finals six times. He was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame.

There are many ways to hit tennis strokes and some ways are more effective than others. Dr. Allen Fox shows you the best way to hit each stroke and, most importantly, explains why these are the best ways to hit them. Other videos may ask you to accept their stroke techniques on faith, but Fox clears away the clouds and illustrates the simple, comprehensible, and physical facts behind the proper techniques. This video will answer all your most important questions on the "how" and "why" of hitting tennis strokes.

This is an excellent DVD for a club player in the 3.0 to 4.5 NTRP range who wants to improve his or her strokes. I think it is particularly useful for an older recreational player (e.g. I am a 4.0 player in my mid-fifties). Fox emphasizes simple bio-mechanically correct compact strokes with no bells or whistles. Think of Jimmy Connors' forehand as the perfect model. If you want to know what you should be doing to drive the ball consistently deep with light topspin for control, this is the DVD for you. Learning to hit as Fox instructs will significantly improve your game. He only covers the one-handed backhand (both light topspin drive and slice) but this is a good way for most recreational players to hit in my opinion. He also covers approach shots, volleys, half-volleys, drop shots, lobs, overheads, serves and returns of serve. Lots of good insights on every stroke. Read Fox' "Think to Win" and John Yandell's "Visual Tennis" along with this DVD and you are on your way to improving the fundamentals of your game. I am hitting significantly better following Fox' instructions.
