Description

with Russ Kasl,
SwimMAC Carolina, 20 year career as an age group coach

Discover 45 drills you can use to train your developing butterflyers!

Russ Kasl delivers a complete butterfly curriculum that has been successful for his SwimMAC Carolina swimmers and can have an immediate impact on your team.

Each technique is taught in a an individual setting and a team setting. This provides you both a detailed view of the stroke and essential techniques for teaching the stroke in a group setting to kids at different ability levels.

STROKE
Kasl breaks down his stroke instruction into seven areas and uses extensive drill work to build the stroke:

  • Body Line and Body Balance - Teach your swimmers a tight line undulation.
  • Pull - Connect the catch to the arm action and develop timing for the pull.
  • Kicking - Train the dolphin kick and teach a tighter, flatter body position that is essential in today's flatter butterfly.
  • Recovery - Discover a low profile recovery that accentuates forward movement, precision and "healthy shoulder" arm action.
  • Entry - Use three drills to train hand entry and an efficient catch position.
  • Breathing - Use this nine-drill progression to teach your swimmers how to get a breath without compromising body position or the timing of the stroke. Kasl addresses how to correct late breathing and also shares strategies for side breathing options in the stroke.
  • Rhythm, Timing, and Tempo - Combine all of the previous stroke segments to optimize full stroke efficiency and an awareness of rhythm, timing and tempo.

TURNS
Kasl presents a six-drill progression for the butterfly turn. These drills include teaching a tight spin to optimize change of direction speed, simplified cadences for arm actions and training the swimmer to grab a breath while maintaining a low profile on the wall.

STARTS
Kasl includes block set-up and strategies for an arrow-like, streamlined entry into the water. He also discusses specific strategies for the butterflyer to transition from the start entry into the kickout and maintaining optimal speed through the first stroke cycle. Also included in the start segment is a single step relay exchange.

Kasl concludes the DVD with a brief segment detailing race strategies for the butterfly events.

This DVD affords you over 3 hours of butterfly instruction that is sure to assist you in coaching your developing butterflyer!
