Pitcher and Catcher Workouts for All Levels
on October 30, 2013
This DVD, just as this whole series, is as good as advertised. The strength of this DVD lies in the emphasis Coach Stith places upon the development of strong and confident catchers.
Of course Stith takes the viewer through framing, throwing, and blocking. But it is the conditioning elements that accompany the development of those skills that makes this DVD impressive. The conditioning aspects place this production above and beyond other DVDs that deal with the art of catching.
Stith leads a tough practice for catchers that lasts approximately forty-five minutes. But once you view his practice, you will see why this practice will build not only strength and endurance but also confidence in your catchers. He stresses that catchers must take pride in the worked they are called upon to do for their team.
Stitch explains why he puts the catchers through this strenuous training and emphasizes solid fundamentals. He stresses the importance of continuous focus and concentration on each of the drills in order to develop strong catching fundamentals. He incorporates a lot of hand-eye coordination drills as well.
After a vigorous series of drills for fundamental improvement, Stith puts his players through a series of catcher specific conditioning drills.
The pitching session is geared more to mid-season workouts when the players are seeing a lot of game time. Stith takes his pitchers through a short workout which includes basic warm-ups, extending the arms, and working various pitches.
But true to form, Stith pays attention to detail as he emphasizes the importance of perfecting spin and location. He continuously stresses the importance of staying on the power line, being balanced and well postured as the players execute their pitching fundamentals.
Of course, it is only fitting that Stith discusses how his pitchers finish their session with lots of sprints and jogging to build up speed, endurance, and stamina.
As stated previously, the strength of this DVD lies with emphasis that it places upon the development of catchers. If you are looking for one DVD that will put your catchers one step ahead of your opponents' catchers, this is the one you want.
