Introduction by Bill Harkins,
Florida State University Head Lacrosse Coach,
German National Team Assistant Coach

This DVD clearly illustrates why Jack Kaley is so revered within the lacrosse community. In this DVD, he covers two of his specialties: The Swarm Ground Ball Pattern and the Hugo Ride. Each concept is covered in an informative marker board presentation and on-field demonstration. The Swarm concept controls possession of the ball by an assigned pattern. Communication is extremely important in this system of play. In the last five years, Kaley's teams have gained an average of 17 extra possessions a game and have outscored opponents 2-to-1 using effective individual technique and the team Swarm. The Hugo Ride concept comes from the saying, "Where he goes, Hugo!" Used as a favorite game strategy, the Hugo Ride is used in special situations like sideline or horn plays. It also allows your team to take advantage of mismatches. In this comprehensive session, Kaley shares the keys of his ever-impressive lacrosse success. An excellent DVD for coaches looking to increase possessions and gain a major edge on opponents!

This video is not bad. The editing is actually a little better on this video than it is in some of his other ones. Probably because they got some money from Florida State to help them out. The Swarm GB pattern is interesting, but it seems very risky defensively. The Hugo Ride is good and the drills are helpful. The only complaint I had was that this video was a little on the short side and could have used a little more explanation and drills.

Of his three videos, I would recommend this one. While I would argue that it could have used some editing, it does not take enough away from this video to make it unwatchable, though it can be very distracting at times. Also, the information on the Hugo Ride is minimal. I feel like it is enough for me to work it out on my own during the coming season, but I donít feel like I could do so if I didnít know lacrosse fairly well to begin with. It is a starting point video, not an explanation. I would only recommend this portion of the video for experienced coaches looking to add a new wrinkle to their game. Regarding the swarming ground ball pattern, it is different. This is a fairly thorough explanation of it, including drills to implement it. It looks like it will be highly effective, easy to install, and effort based. Buy this video for the swarming ground ball pattern. Again, it could have used some better editing of this section, but it is not awful.
