Features & Benefits Develop a disposition to dominate defensively Learn the building blocks of one-on-one defense Discover the three things that get defenders beat and how to address them Learn to keep your opponent's dodger behind the goal from one of the greatest defensemen in lacrosse history with Dave Pietramala,Johns Hopkins Head Lacrosse Coach;2x National Champions (2007 & 2005);six trips to the Final Four in eight years (2001-08);only person to win an NCAA Lacrosse Championship as a player and a coachLearn to keep your opponent's dodger behind the goal with a detailed breakdown of individual defensive principles from one of the greatest defensemen in lacrosse history. Using a part-whole teaching approach, Coach Pietramala demonstrates a progression of drills to train individual defenders. Throughout the presentation, Pietramala shares the what, the why and the how for all of his defensive drills and techniques. Beginning with properly addressing the ball, Pietramala teaches and demonstrates how to limit a dodger's options using foot position, body placement, stick position, off-ball defense and communication. To better handle the dodge, Pietramala demonstrates his Retreat Drill. Expanding on the techniques he uses to address the ball, this drill works on eliminating flat feet. He then moves to transition presenting drills that focus on beating the attackman to his spot and taking away the top side. The Shadow Drill pulls everything together; addressing the ball, retreating and goal line defense. He includes a slide element to reinforce to the defender that, when the ball is played well there will be help.If you can stop an individual offensive player - you've stopped the offense. Ratings & Reviews Developing On-Ball Defenders Behind the Net on December 9, 2013 Currently 4/5 Stars.4/5 Stars 4 by Anonymous This is a very detailed, very thorough instructional video. At 80 minutes it's nearly twice as long as many of the other instructional videos. The level of detail that Pietramala goes into -- the first 20 minutes is spent on addressing the ball carrier, for example -- may be overkill at lower levels (unless you are really focused on fundamentals). The drills are clearly explained and the teaching point is obvious, but they probably need some adaptation to make them beneficial to high school players and below. This is a key reference video but should probably be a later purchase for your library after some of the broader defensive fundamentals videos. 0 of 2 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful? I preferred the Duke defensive dvd. 0 of 1 people found this review helpful. Was this review helpful?
