Using a part-whole teaching approach, Coach Pietramala demonstrates a progression of drills to train individual defenders. Throughout the presentation, Pietramala shares the what, the why and the how for all of his defensive drills and techniques.

Beginning with properly addressing the ball, Pietramala teaches and demonstrates how to limit a dodger's options using foot position, body placement, stick position, off-ball defense and communication.

To better handle the dodge, Pietramala demonstrates his Retreat Drill. Expanding on the techniques he uses to address the ball, this drill works on eliminating flat feet. He then moves to transition presenting drills that focus on beating the attackman to his spot and taking away the top side.

The Shadow Drill pulls everything together; addressing the ball, retreating and goal line defense. He includes a slide element to reinforce to the defender that, when the ball is played well there will be help.
