Coach Ewen introduces the art of checking with the keen perspective of a life-long player and now coach. Using players on the ice, Ewen demonstrates the goal of checking, how to receive a check and how to give a check. Ewen illustrates the 'hunter vs. duck' drill, which is a good introductory drill for teaching the check - including how to accept the check. The next phase of teaching is dealing with the corners. Pushing around the board is explained and illustrated through on-ice drills with Ewen. Ewen also shows how to simulate this drill to be more competitive and game-like for additional training benefit.
