Four-time National Hockey Coach of the Year Mike McShane believes that the best practices involve a lot of skating, they keep everyone involved, they are run at a high tempo and, most importantly, have a flow from one skill set to another.
In this presentation, Coach McShane gives you a high tempo, 29-drill practice that shows you how to build a flow into your practices that will connect the imperative skills of the game to critical system concepts.
McShane begins with a brief skating warm-up that includes five drills. Next he moves into passing and shooting drills, mirror drills, pivot drills, checking drills, a 1-on-1 series, a cycling series and a small games series. For each drill and skill, McShane not only coaches his players but also narrates key points of focus for coaching each phase of the activity.
Throughout the presentation, McShane repeatedly incorporates important intangibles of the game such as communication, teamwork and competitiveness while improving his player's hockey IQ.
This hockey practice DVD gives you a comprehensive set of fast, intense and competitive drills that shows you firsthand what a "best practice" should involve.

This video is not very impressive. The filming of full ice drills provides a limited view of the drill timing. Explanations are done on the ice with no white board work as most other videos provide. Content is superficial and has not been helpful. I would give this one star, based on other videos I have seen in the past.
Just what I needed to watch in the off season. I see why McShane is so successful ... he is a great teacher.
This video contains some helpful information, but I wasn't too happy with the overall content. The camera is on the side of the rink and makes it difficult to see some of the drills, I would have liked to see the camera at one end of the rink so we could see the ice better. In an attempt to get some many drills into a 50 minute video we don't get a lot of detail behind the drills. I enjoyed Coach McShane's "Power Lock Forecheck" video, but felt this one could have been better.
