This presentation includes three full practices, as well as a game film breakdown session and a film scouting session. See how Blasi and his staff evaluate each game and get tips on how to dissect an opponent in order to prepare your team for success.

Practice Breakdown:

  • Practice 1 is what Blasi describes as a "lunch bucket-hard work day." This practice focuses on 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 play, defensive zone work and battles.
  • Practice 2 has a game day focus with special attention to offense, special teams, flow, and game-like situations. Blasi also includes a film room session that breaks down a previous game, as well as a scouting report film breakdown for an upcoming game.
  • Practice 3 is devoted to offense, game-like situations, special teams and final preparations for the upcoming weekend series.

Throughout the three days of practice, Blasi shares marker board breakdowns of the drills and strategies before taking them onto the ice for live play.

Explore the positive energy of a Miami of Ohio hockey practice and learn how you can incorporate it into your program!

I have seen a couple of the 'All Access' DVDs and I really liked this one; Blasi runs a great practice and Ohio is not close to be able to drive over and take in a few days of practice. I liked the team 'buy in' I observed and got some good ideas that I'm excited to implement next year. Thanks for taking the time to put this one together ... was worth the $ and the time!!

I wasn't too happy with this video. It is what it claims to be and that is an all access view of the practice for Miami of Ohio. There are loads of minutes spent on both DVD's just watching the same drill over and over. For instance there is a segment about six or seven minutes long of a shoot-out at the end of one of their practice sessions.

When I purchase hockey videos I want to learn something new and this set missed out on some of those opportunities. At the beginning of each practice they show the team doing warm-up drills, but there isn't any time spent with us to show what drills are being run. A few of the drills looked pretty interesting but you had to follow as best you could through the camera angles to see how the drill worked.

There are sections where the coach uses a really cool high tech computer screen to illustrate drills his team is going to perform, but there didn't seem to be enough depth to the illustration and it seemed to me that these were drills the team ran so often that the coach wasn't really showing us the drill in detail but instead just doing a high level to his team so they would remember the drill they have run in the past.

The film study portion of the video is done well and it's nice to sort of be in the room when the coaches are evaluating and breaking down film and the coaching staff is obviously very knowledgeable about the game, but not sure if we gain anything from it.

Bottom line is that this video is more like sitting in the rink and watching the team go through three practice sessions and then following the coaches into the locker room to watch them breakdown game film for the team. If that's something you are looking to have in your collection than it is a great video to have. If you are looking for a video from a top ranked college coach showing you drills like some of the videos from say Coach Carlson that are available here at Championship Productions then I think you will be disappointed.

I gave it a middle of the road rating of 3 stars because I thought it could have brought more to the table and really given us the inside look at a D1 college program and insight from one of the top young coaches in the game today, but I thought it fell short.

Championship Productions replies:

Our All Access products allow you to watch live practices from top coaches in the game. We mic up the coach and get out of the way, so you can see exactly how each practice unfolds, how the coach works with his athletes, assistants, etc. If you've never experienced a college hockey practice, this is your chance!
