John Hodge gives you an overview look at the 4-4 defense and the adjustments off of the basic scheme that will allow you to experience success on the defensive side of the ball. In this video he begins by talking the "WHY?" of the defense. He discusses how to identify if the 4-4 defense is best for your team. He then continues with a defensive overview of his scheme.
The emphasis of technique is the main focus for Coach Hodge when implementing and fine tuning his defensive attack. He preaches 11 hats on the ball creating a relentless attack, which has been the philosophy both in practice and in the game for success year in and year out. One of the best segments to this presentation, NO LOAFS, talks about five things that will make your team more successful, and does not allow anything short of the players very best effort on every play.
Coach Hodge then gets into the scheme discussion of his base 4-4 Defense. In this he shows base alignment and talks about why they align this way. Furthermore, he discusses the pre-snap awareness that is needed each and every down. He also covers the different front, and linebacker adjustments that he utilizes in his defense to attack the offense, and the different coverages that they marry to their different looks. He finishes his presentation by taking a brief look into their run and pass stunts and blitzes and shares some game footage of different stunts that they utilize in the defense.
This video is best suited for high school or junior high coaches who want a simple explanation of the 4-4 Defense.
