Build your leader under center next season. Boise State is known for producing smart, efficient quarterbacks. In this Nike Coach of the Year Clinc production, Jonathan Smith provides his coaching insight and explains the different drills he uses to break down the three fundamental ares for being a successful quarterback: decision-making, pocket presence, and accuracy.
Coach Smith begins with decision-making, and as he states the Quarterback is the leader or CEO, coach provides three drills to help breakdown this key fundamental for any QB.
Moving into pocket presence, Coach Smith once again provides multiple drills that are relevant to building great pocket presence as a QB. He uses practice video and then game tape to see how it is applied within a game scenario. Coach ends with his last fundamental and one of the most important, accuracy. He breaks down different throwing motions of various quarterbacks and passes along coaching points that you can use for your quarterbacks. Smith explains the term "strikepoint" to help the quarterback and receivers understand when and where the ball should be thrown in each route.
To end his clinic session Coach Smith talks about what level of preparation and toughness is needed for a quarterback not only for a game but also what it takes during the week in practice. Smith explains different drills he uses to emphasize physical toughness in practice, and how he uses game film to help illustrate different places in a game where quarterbacks have to be tough to be successful.
This is one of the most thorough clinic sessions on quarterbacks with unprecedented amount of drills that can be applied to the three most important fundamental areas for a quarterback.
