Mastering Pass Protection Techniques

In this excellent presentation, Coach Grimes stresses the six areas that must be mastered in order to be effective in pass block protection. In teaching pass protection technique, Coach Grimes covers 5 different sets. Use of game footage helps clarify the need for correct technique and sound fundamentals. Both correct and incorrect pass protection execution is highlighted in game film discussion. Some of the drills covered include: A Pass Pro drill called the Set-Punch, a quick hands drill (explained using practice footage), a line drill, a shuffle kick drill, a shuffle punch drill and "The Mirror Drill", which simulates a pass rush as partners mirror each other.
