Description

with Larry Fedora, University of North Carolina Head Coach

Utilizing the principles of smart, fast and physical football, Larry Fedora has earned a reputation for being one of college football's offensive masterminds. In his first year in Chapel Hill, Coach Fedora's Tar Heels posted more than 35 school offensive records, won eight games and tied for first in the ACC's Coastal Division. In this clinic, he details the elements of an offensive philosophy that has made North Carolina successful early on in his tenure. You'll see:

  • how he has developed his offense using a one-back, no-huddle scheme
  • how he uses personnel to create mismatches against the defense
  • how he prepares for third down situations

Coach Fedora, who was one of the first to use a no-huddle team, explains the importance of a multi-tempo offense. He discusses, in great detail, the multi-tempo, no-huddle offense and explains why it's an effective way to put stress on opposing defenses.

Coach Fedora uses both a PowerPoint presentation and game footage to take you through his one-back philosophy and his quick-game passing attack. He begins with a "spacing" route for a 3x1 set and then shows how to apply the concept to a 2x2 formation. The quarterback progression is also explained in great detail. Coach Fedora also shares his "Mars" route, which utilizes a double-spacing concept to keep the chains moving. Next, he covers a companion play called "spot" that keeps the reads the same for the quarterback, making this concept impossible to stop. The formations, routes, and QB progressions of each concept are thoroughly explained.

The presentation continues with Coach Fedora's comments on tight ends and how they do more than provide good blocking at the point of attack. Properly used, they can be the ultimate mismatch. (Note: The following sentence is incomplete to the point that I cannot edit it.) In an offense that seemingly adapts itself to the multiple-formation, pass oriented offense, has been an offense Fedora shows can be a power rushing offense that has averaged 190 yards per game over a 13 year span.

Coach Fedora gives an inside look how to plan your practice for situational football and how to utilize concepts within your game plan to fine-tune your success on certain downs and distance situations. He breaks down concepts that are easily implemented and will bring immediate results and success.
