Jim Heacock: Defending the Spread Offense

Coach Jim Heacock's second presentation is focused on ways to defend the spread offense. He begins by describing the need to evaluate characteristics of an opponent's offense, including personnel, QB strengths, tempo, best players, empty sets, shifts, and back alignment. He also outlines strategies that OSU covers regardless of the offense they are facing. He ties the concepts together showing how they relate to the spread and also describes the 70 Defense and its various adjustments. Coach Heacock wraps up his presentation with unique practice segments you can use to make practice more effectives. These include a "run through," no-helmet segment, a competitive segment called Marauders and an up-tempo segment you can use when prepping for no-huddle teams.
