Coach Blankenship discusses punt cover, kick-off cover and return, and the punt block or return (PBR). He details the alignment, get-off, speed zone and snap-key techniques, and shows how to use each to devastate an opponent. He also uses video clips of several special team drills, including the shimmy drill, 2-on-1, rabbit drill, kickoff coverage gauntlet drill, 4-on-4, and the lions and gazelles drill.
In part two of this special teams tutorial, Blankenship shares strategies for punt team alignments, procedures, tempo calls, numbering and coverage responsibilities, as well as keen insights on lanes and leverages. He emphasizes his lecture points with video clips from practices and games. In the kickoff segment, Coach Blankenship looks at the cover team, types of kicks, teaching progression, terminology, and coverage base alignments.
