Coach Creehan continues his string of excellent Wing-T videos with this discussion on how to beat the 5-3. The key to beating the 5-3 defense, according to Creehan, is spreading out the defense with open formations. Five pass plays are shown along with 14 running plays including an option and inside and outside counters. The 14 plays are shown in both belly and buck option series. Every play looks alike, making it difficult for the defense to read. Also, every play covers both sides of the defense from flank to flank.

This video will also help you chew up the Bear, Double Eagle, and 46 defenses, which are variations of the 5-3 defense.

I really enjoyed the game-planning portion, as well as the portion about where to begin the attack. Everything makes sense on paper, but there really was only maybe a minute of actual game film. Also most of the clips weren't out of the formation he was discussing. Because of the lack of film examples as well as the reliance on the option as a core Wing-T play I gave it the rating I did. I know the presenter is very legitimate, but anyone can stand in front of a white board and draw specific plays that will defeat a given a defense. To me it's the film that sets those parties apart.
