Features & Benefits
with Tony Barone,
former Memphis Grizzlies Assistant Coach and Director of Player Personnel

In this outstanding DVD, Coach Tony Barone begins with four developmental points on playing team basketball and the importance of spending time practicing the fundamentals. Coach Barone incorporates individual skill development with a series of dribbling and shooting drills designed to work on ball handling, shooting, passing, footwork, and speed. Included is a sequence of game strategies that the Memphis Grizzlies use in their own practices. These innovative drills include Out of Bounds play "A," Three-Point Shooting Drill, Drop Step Drill, Rebound Drill, Guard Drill, Lay-up Drill and Rebound Drill. These drills will enhance the development of any player wanting to learn and improve in his or her understanding and execution of effective guard play. Coach Barone uses on-court demonstrations to illustrate the numerous techniques that should be utilized daily. These drills will provide a base foundation throughout your entire season and instill the fundamentals of today's game. The performance of your perimeter players will greatly improve with the use and practice of these effective drills. Coach Barone will teach you all of these drills that he and the Memphis Grizzlies Staff use to evaluate the best players entering the NBA Draft or Free Agent Market to challenge them, expose their weaknesses, and aid them in improving in these areas. These drills are critical in helping you and your players to be successful.

Coach Barone demonstrated drills (with European players?) that the Memphis Grizzlies use to evaluate players for the draft. Most of the drills could be categorized as individual player development drills. He taught a couple inbounds plays as well. Coach Barone has been around a long time and injects some interesting points. He stresses the need for high school coaches to have a system and teach fundamentals. Unfortunately, the title is very misleading. These are not "team" drills. The drills are individual and small group drills. Some of the drills are competitive (one defender tries to stop the ball) but most are about skill "comfortability." I would not use the word "critical", "understanding", "base foundation" or "daily" to describe most of these drills. The video description is over hyped but it is filmed well.
