Tom Izzo's 'Basketball Smorgasbord' of Drills and Basketball Wisdom

To be completely honest, I'm not sure my review will add much but I think it's worth sharing anyway. This is an excellent DVD. I've had it on my shelf for a couple of years and kept putting it off for newer DVD's I had purchased. I really wish this the first, or one of the first DVD's I had viewed when I got into coaching a few years ago. This video will 100% help lay a strong foundation for any new/young coaches. All of the things I was stressing over when I was just starting out: building my man to man defense from the ground up, sideline and baseline inbounds, ball screen defense, simple quick hitters versus the zone- it's literally all in this video.

Izzo's man to man defensive progression in this video is one of the best, if not the very best of any I've seen on a Championship Production DVD. It's outstanding and would've been worth the price of the DVD just on its own. He builds it from stance, to 2v2, on and onward. Without spoiling the DVD, there are 6 drills Izzo displays to build up your man to man. 4 of them are foundational, and the other 2 are disadvantage drills in the half-court. He finishes his man to man defensive presentation with 5 coverages for ball screen defense.

Literally everything shown in the video is then reinforced with film of Michigan State performing it in a game or in practice. This video is timeless and a gem. Every new coach should heed my advice and buy this video. Best of luck.

The title hits the nail on the head. This is a smorgasbord of great drills and coaching wisdom. In this DVD you get a several zone and man offense. Coach Izzo goes through some of the offense on the floor and provides great teaching points to correct players. After viewing the on-court portion, coach Izzo then shows game footage of the offensive looks. After the game footage, the pattern repeats; on-court followed by game footage. Again you are getting multiple offensive looks out of a 1-3-1 set.Next up is the defensive series. Coach Izzo display some of the defensive drills that he uses daily with the Spartans. The "Jump to the Ball" drill is always a classic. In this drill, like all of the other drills, coach Izzo shows the drill and then goes over the possible looks that could happen within the drill.

Again, this is a great DVD. Not only are you getting the chance to listen and watch one of the nation's greatest

coaches but also getting the chance to see semi/professional in their daily practice

This is a the best Champ. Prod. video I have watched. I will be purchasing the rest of Coach Izzo's video when I can. He throws a ton of stuff at you and you can see why his teams have played at an elite level during his time at MSU.

There is a ton of good information in this one, great value. Coach Izzo goes over a good handful of plays against zone as well as out of bounds and even jump balls and also shows how he builds his defense. You really can't go wrong.

Good information but it seems like he is trying to put too much into too little time so some of the drills seem rushed.

Comprehensive video. Makes you think about all aspects of the game, and makes you realize that you should believe in your core principles. And, be good at what you do, even if it seems a simple concept.

Agree with all previous posts...some great info, with no fluff to fill the near 2 hours. Some of the plays I had seen before but altogether it is truely a smorgasbord of wisdom...

After watching this DVD by Tom Izzo, it makes me want to purchase his other tapes. His demonstrations are great and very clear. And he covers several different things in this DVD (Defense, Out of Bounds Plays *Baseline and Side Out*, and Zone Quick Hitters).

Fantasic quick hitters vs the 2-3. He shows you ways to score in 6 to 10 seconds against the zone. Score that quick and most teams will pull out of the zone quick which is what we really want. Also has the best man defense build up I have ever seen. He goes from on ball to two man jump to the ball to three man deny the cutter to a 4 man shell with rotation. I give this one 5 stars,

A great video that contains a lot of on court demonstration as well clips of the plays being executed in games. Coach Izzo shared quick hitters that are useful against both zone and man-to-man defenses as well as defensive drills they utilize everyday at practice. It is no wonder why Coach Izzo is so successful, he is a great teacher as seen in this DVD.
