Coach Izzo's teams specialize on the defensive end and on the glass. In this DVD, Izzo presents his rebounding and defensive ball screen concepts. To rebound successfully, Izzo describes how to hit (contact on the shot), find the ball, and fetch (get the ball before it hits the floor). These fundamentals are shown in the One-One-One, 2- and 5-man and War drills. On the offensive side of the floor, the Step-Step, wedge and spin moves are taught to enable offensive players to rebound more effectively. To generate more game-like situations, Izzo demonstrates a rebounding game that pits two defenders and two offensive players. The rebounding focus continues with instruction on blocking out on free throw situations. The pinch and wedge are demonstrated along the lane line. Izzo also presents his thoughts on rebounding against a zone. The DVD concludes with Izzo's seven different options in guarding the pick-and-roll, which is a popular part of today's game. Methods presented are over the top, up & over, trap, up & under, Jam, Feather and Red. Red is a method borrowed from the NBA that does not allow the dribbler to reach the on ball screen. Coach Izzo has adopted a "defense wins" attitude about coaching the game. The drills and teaching points in this DVD can help you develop your own winning attitude.
85 minutes. 2006.
Probably more philosophy then actual application, meaning more talking then showing. There are a few solid drills but nothing you haven't seen before, the philosophy is interesting and at the very least makes you think about how you do thinks compared to the guy who leads the perennial best rebounding team in the Nation. PnR still is good, but again not awesome.
Tom Izzo gives you some good drills. I've been using them during my practice and its been effective.
Great DVD. Coach Izzo has some nice sets vs 2-3 at the end. Over all great DVD
best rebounding DVD out there. Stresses "hitting the opposing rebounder to stop there progress before going after the rebound. I use on of his rebounding drill as part of warm up before every game. Gets everyone in the right frame of mind.
Tom Izzo, is just legendary. Some of his defensive philosophy is already covered in other DVD's so if you have bought other dvd's with his rebounding drills and philosophy, There is not much new stuff here that will not have been covered in others. Guarding the pick and role is valuable and might be the only new material you will see here if you have other dvd's of Top Izzo on rebounding. If this is your first dvd. Well there is another dvd on rebounding which has some really good offence material on attacking the 23 zone. Kind of disjoint but valuable. This is a good dvd , I will use this rebounding style mostly to promote toughness and aggressiveness which is a staple to Coach Izzo's teams over the years.
