This starts by giving four entries into the 5 out motion Wildcat offense. The basic motion is easy to implement, when the ball is passed to the opposite wing the weak side goes to a screen down and curl and replace to the 5 out. The corners tend to be between the 3pt arc and the short corner, I think so there is less lag in getting to the down screen.
There are some options shown out of the motion actions, with flare curl and backdoor being the main three. In the basic motion, even though the weak side point, wing and corner go into the action they each fill back to their original spots. Only with the options do you see replacement to different spots.
I think this video could be viewed as the basis for all the other videos Coach Perretta has put out, especially the m2m videos where he is calling out actions. The motion offense would be fairly simple to implement, but if you wanted to put in the actions that would take much more time and drills I think. He mentions at the end that it takes two weeks to get the basic motion and options in at Villanova.
A big benefit is that he is using his own players, so everyone on the court already knows what to do. There are also breakdown drills shown off the down screen and curl actions, and 3v3 that goes purely into the action. There is a bit of 5v5 scrimmage at the end, and you see some different options including corner there. Coach also covers mistakes and how easy it is to get back into the offense. This is a short video at 39 minutes, but this reflects the simplicity of the motion.
This is a good basis for the fully implemented offense and could be used on its own, but unless you are vested in the whole offense i think there are better 5 out motion offenses out there. 4/5 stars
