This instructional video with Mike Jones, longtime head basketball coach of nationally acclaimed DeMatha Catholic High School, shows you how to put your team in attack mode by beating your opponent down the court in every possession.

Using on-court demonstrations, Coach Jones covers various quick-strike, fast-break strategies from inbounding the ball to running lanes to player responsibilities. He also includes several passes every player must be able to make.

DeMatha's up-tempo "Bingo" offense creates a seamless transition from one phase of offense into another without stopping to reset players. Emphasis is placed on pushing the ball up court quickly with well-timed, well-executed passes. Jones also looks at quick decision-making against defensive pressure with a strategy called "Bingo recognition."

The "Bingo" offense requires tremendous conditioning. To ensure your players can meet the demands of this effective yet intense offense, Jones offers 13 different conditioning drills ranging from simple two-ball passing and three-man weave all the way to "Bingo" recognition.

He emphasizes the importance of communication and accurate ball handling in the development of the fast break. All drills focus on spreading the ball, making game passes and taking shots from the floor in situations that simulate real-game play. Each drill is designed to develop players' athleticism and reaction time.

Jones shows how he has maintained the momentum of coaching great Morgan Wootten. Learn from the best-improve your fast break offense with strategies responsible for DeMatha's string of championship successes.

I gave this DVD on the fast break a 5-Star rating. The reason why I gave this DVD such a high rating is because of several factors. First off, the ease of coaching instruction. Coach Jones explains every drill in simple terms. He stresses the importance of being accurate with the pass and being fundamentally sound with the pass. He starts off with a basic 5 v 0 fast break demo; wings wide, one post doing rim runs (basket to basket down the middle of the court run), point guard positioning, which is key (avoid trapping areas/ get your butt facing the sideline/ trying to get as deep as possible for an outlet pass), and inbounder positioning.

Secondly, the drill phase of the DVD. One of the drills Coach Jones talks about his their "Bingo" Recognition drill, which is a court awareness drill. A lot of times after a score, teams put pressure on the point guard and the rest of the players just run up the court without being aware of the situation behind them, in bounder not being able to enter the ball to the point guard. So in the Bingo drill, players are working on what options are available when a player is being guarded for that entry pass. Coach Jones stresses being fundamentally sound on passing and ball handling.

Next up, is how Coach Jones stresses the ability of each player; perimeter and post players doing the same drills. This helps all players being able to play the game at a high pace. If playing uptempo basketball matches your coaching philosophy, this DVD is a must have for your collection.

I have several fast break coaching DVDs. The Tar Heels (Roy Williams) fast break/secondary break and the DeMatha fast break are my all-time favorites.

My favorite drill(s) is this DVD are:

The DeMatha Weave Drill- This a 3 man break: great conditioner.

Pass and Follow- This was a great drill because the team is working on every pass possible and throwing the pass as perfectly as possible: Baseball, Bounce, Overhead, and Chest pass.

And the basic drills by position of where players would get their shots; point guard push, wing jumpers, post looks, and trail jumpers.

This is a great DVD for your collection if you are looking for more ideas to improve your fast break offense.

5-Stars!!

Overall its a good fast break DVD but it doesn't go through all the rules for fast break. When you get it ahead and theres 2 players on 1 side for example. Drills were good!

I thought this video was excellent! Coach Jones went into tremendous detail explaining each spot in the break and the roles involved with each spot. The breakdown drills are tremendous! I used a good number of them this past season and saw results as far as advancing the ball with the pass (fewer dribbles) and limiting turnovers. We also got some scores off of opponents' made baskets thanks to this DVD!
