Five-time state championship coach David Boyd reveals the little things that must be done in order to build a successful team and basketball program.
In this information-packed lecture, Coach Boyd offers "must have" advice starting with his aggressive man-to-man defensive principles and four defensive absolutes that gave up just 49 ppg in 2011. He also gives you the key to his second half success: his smothering 1-3-1 defense. Boyd describes the principles he uses to teach it: Keeping a man between all passing options, trapping options, and aggressive pursuit of the basketball.
Offensively, Coach Boyd talks about the best three ways to score on offense and how an aggressive defense needs to start all offensive set-ups. He then discusses one of his everyday drills to teach offense, defense, and transition.
If you are trying to build a championship program, then you need to look at Coach Boyd's five principles for building a championship program: Great scheduling, promoting your team through the media, AAU relationships, handling parents, and working individually with your players in the off-season.
Finally, Boyd describes and demonstrates a few of his favorite last-second inbound plays that are sure to help you surprise your opponent.
This championship builder DVD is for any coach who is just starting out or for any coach looking to rebuild a struggling program. .
69 minutes. 2012.
This is NOT worth $40. As the reviewer before me stated he talks the entire time, and shows nothing except for giving some inbounds plays at the end on the floor.
It's interesting to hear his philosophy but there was nothing on this dvd worth the money you're going to put out for it.
I received this video in the mail and have to say it is not worth the money you spend on it. The entire video has Coach Boyd just talking about some things that he believes makes a championship team. He only shows three inbounds plays at the end of the video and that is the only time there is any on court demonstration. The description of this video is misleading in that he does not show any of his 1-3-1 on the court and any man to man drills on court. He just tells you he thinks you have to run man to be successful and then have a change up with the 1-3-1 defense. Not very good video and I was very disappointed after watching it.Championship Productions replies:Coach, I am sorry you found the ad misleading. I can see why you are disappointed. Please contact Championship Productions for a return or exchange. For all other coaches: this is a video about building a program, so it is mostly lecture. I have updated the ad copy to clarify this. Coach Boyd has five state championships and over 500 wins. You will profit from his insights if you are looking for ways to improve your program. Lonnie Kragel, Championship ProductionsChampionship Productions replies:If you're looking for 1-3-1 defense, try Dennis Felton's video: BD-03463.
