Ratings & Reviews Teaching Kids to Shoot: A Guide for Parents and Coaches on March 9, 2018 Currently 1/5 Stars.1/5 Stars 1 by BernardoMedina I am a parent who knows very little about basketball and I bought this to help my children learn to shoot. I do not see how the previous review gave this 5 stars unless you know the gentleman personally. I say this because I own over 100 sport instructional dvds, mostly in wrestling and jiu jitsu. I bought them to help my children learn and I have found all the dvds from Championship productions useful. I know good teaching when I see it based on analyzing and dissecting all these videos to help my children improve. I have now switched over to basketball and I am doing the same. When I watched this dvd I realized this is the most terrible DVD I have spent money on. It fails completely at its task of helping me teach my children. I can tell you that if you want a good video on how to shoot the basketball get "AAU Coaching Girls Basketball Series: Progression for building your shot." That was an excellent dvd to learn how to teach your kid how to shoot, and don't let the title fool you it is for girls or boys, same shot pattern. Unlike this dvd. Do not waste your money on this dvd. He basically lectures for 50 minutes. No drills. No children to show you how they are messing up and how to correct it. No live examples. The video could have been a radio program with just talking because nothing in the video is there to visually help you. It is him giving a discourse about the errors other coaches do in teaching shooting and how his method is better. In a slow and mundane speech pattern. Problem is after hearing his method I went outside and could not correct or perform a better shot or instruct my children in shooting better. So he failed at his goal of helping the parent teach their kids to shoot better. Whereas with the other dvd I mentioned I was able to go outside and immediately help my children drill and get better. So buy the other dvd instead, buy "AAU Coaching Girls Basketball Series: Progression for building your shot." At least this is the point of view from a parent who was trying to use this dvd to help his children to shoot better. Championship Productions replies:Coach, thanks for your feedback! Glad we were able to process an exchange for you and get you something that better suited your needs. -- Championship Productions Was this review helpful? Yes No Teaching Kids to Shoot: A Guide for Parents and Coaches on August 10, 2016 Currently 5/5 Stars.5/5 Stars 5 by JellyBean2144 5-Star Rating I gave this DVD a 5-Star rating because of the straight forward, easy to follow and understand DVD on how to teach the art of shooting a basketball for parents and coaches and how we can help to correct flaws in a players shooting stroke. As a coach and parent, one of the hardest things to teach is shooting and I want to make sure that I am giving my players solid coaching points and this DVD does not disappoint. Coach starts off the shooting guide by starting off with the legs (stance) and building up. Included in this DVD, coach offers some solid shooting fundamentals;basketball position in the hand of a player, the wrist snap key, ball handling so that players feel confident with their handles and their shooting of the ball, and a host of other coaching advice. Another key of this DVD that I really liked was the part dealing with where should your focus (head) be when shooting. Do you aim for the back of the rim or the front of the rim? Coach suggest focusing on where the net is connected to the rim, where it forms a "V" and then you teach a player to shoot "Up and Over" the rim. This skill will help improve shooting for a young player. Great DVD...5-Star rating here. Was this review helpful?
