Coach Miller's philosophy on player improvement is rolled up into four keys; have a plan, establish a conditioning element, design practice to carry over to the game and make footwork the cornerstone of your improvement. Miller illustrates drills that center on skills off the catch, off the dribble and in the post. The explosion series off the catch comes from Larry Brown. Creating space and triple threat position are mandatory for off the catch drills. From the move, Miller teaches the strong side drive, body to body. A major teaching point is playing in a straight line, especially when driving to the hoop. The perimeter drive to low post play is another skill in this series. The second phase of drills is off the dribble. Six two-ball dribbling drills are demonstrated and are the best way to develop the weak hand. The cross over and inside/out dribble move are essential skills in the full court. In the post, players benefit from the toughness series, which simulates the game, has carry over and a conditioning element. These quick, intense drills include the Mikan drill, tip drills and footwork drills. Miller emphasizes that the inside foot is in cement as the outside foot is a kickstand. Baseline finishes prepare post players to catch and score quickly in the post. The final two drills in the toughness series are the X-out drill and one-on-one in the post.

I thought Coach Miller provided some great stuff that I will use with my team in the offseason. For a former point guard, he had some tremendous post development drills. I also loved his two basketball dribbling drills!
